"The largest battery in Europe is connected"

Backup batteries are a powerful tool that is gaining momentum in recent years. These allow them to get more out of the electrical system, as a quick and economical backup, which is allowing them to expand with more and more installations, which are also increasingly larger.

This is the case of the largest installation per MWh connected to date in Europe, the work of the British Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), which has connected an installation to the grid that is expected to be an example for future projects.

This set is made up of 52 Tesla Megapacks, which are managed by the North American manufacturer's Autobidder AI system, and which offers an efficient alternative for this type of projects.

In total, the battery group achieves a maximum output power of 99 MW, with a capacity of 198 MWh.

These have been connected to the UK Power Networks distribution network, allowing them to store energy from renewable sources and provide peak hour flexibility to the UK national grid.

According to those responsible for the project, this installation will power more than 300,000 homes for two hours. Something that offers important flexibility to the electrical network in case of problems in the supply from the usual sources of each region.

It will not be the only project, and for example FRV itself and Harmony Energy are working on other spaces such as the West-Sussex facility, with a capacity of 34MW and 68MWh, or the Holes Bay facility, with a maximum output power of 7. 5MW and a capacity of 15MWh.

FRV also has plans to develop energy storage projects worldwide in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Mexico, Chile and Spain.
